I’m currently in the process of getting price quotes on possible venues for the reception/party loosely planned for next August in NJ. With all this number crunching (no idea what my actual budget is at this point so….) the items I think I can handle myself include the flowers (obviously), the invites (again, obvs), the party favors and the cake. I have known people to handle their own – opting to bake a couple hundred cupcakes (multiple flavors) a week ahead of time, freeze them, travel with them and then frost them upon arrival. Despite the fact that our “ceremony” will most likely involve me, Butch, a bored judge, and a few shots of whiskey, I still feel like I need a special dress for the occasion. So here are the facts so far:

• There will be no major wedding ceremony.
• Butch and I will be eloping, via city hall, in New Orleans, sometime in the late winter/early spring.
• Our honeymoon will be the month-long road trip it will take to travel from upstate NY to New Orleans, with stops along the way.
• We will be having a party of some kind, post marriage, in the New Jersey area, to make it easy for most of our friends/family to celebrate with us.
• In lieu of a traditional store registry, we will be having a mortgage registry so we can buy a house in the beautiful Thousand Islands region we now live in.
• We want to have fun and don’t want to spend a lot of money!
