Yesterday morning, I sat down with my friend Michele, who I’ve asked to cater the Sunday morning (“morning after”) brunch for our wedding. I worked with Michele over at Kring’s Nursery, and she’d always bring in the most interesting (and delicious) lunches, so I knew we would be on the same page as to what constitutes good food.

And boy, did she come prepared! She had a binder with printed out recipes, and lists of ideas for brunchy goodness. In the end we came up with a good mix of sweet and savory, with everything from traditional diner fare to more gourmet menu options… as well as “to-go” options (for those just passing through). And besides the usual coffee, juice and iced tea, there will be Mimosas and Bloody Marys for those needing “the hair of the dog.” And she even said she would take care of the little things, like creating creative labels for the food so everyone knows what they’re eating.

Besides her good taste, I also appreciated how prepared, focused and organized she was. I truly felt like I had handed off a major task, that it would be done, and done well. It’s one less thing I have to worry about!

Just a couple of projects “in progress”…The cookie tiers for the desert table are based on a project ripped out of Readymade Magazine back when they had their original, awesome staff (see more of my Readymade rant here):

All Dressed Up

At long last….the dress is finished! I started with a plain cotton dress from ebay, added some vintage lace to the sleeves, mother of pearl buttons down the front, applique heart and of course…embroidery.

Now that the dress is done (YES! And I will post pics soon!), it’s now time to start working on the other crafty elements of the reception – Mainly centerpieces, treat tiers, cake toppers, and a few other odds and ends. I also need to organize and delegate the deserts/cookies/cupcakes/misc. treats that will be in place of a wedding cake. Even I will be baking, albeit something extremely easy that I could in no way mess up. However, in trolling wedding sites online, I sometimes wish I was a regular pastry artist and could whip up treats as “crafty” as these:

…Tell me how elaborate I need to get with wedding favors?

The escort cards I chose happen to have a plantable paper heart attached that blooms into wildflowers (the card also says “Please Be Seeded” – amazing). The heart matches my theme, and the seeds match my green(ish) interests:

…so my question is – is that enough of a favor?

My mom is currently visiting my sister, brother-in-law, and new baby nephew in Qatar, and was given the opportunity to attend an authentic Qatari wedding! I’ve posted her wonderful descriptions below (they were not allowed to take photos) along with some pictures I found online of similar* weddings. Definitely different from what I‘m going for, but inspiring nonetheless. Enjoy!

The loose theme of our wedding is “handmade with love,” and while I’m trying not to drive myself batty making everything myself, there are certain elements that have been, since the beginning, very important to me to be customized. The dress for example. In case you need a reminder, I bought a cheap white cotton dress on ebay and have been embroidering the story of Butch and I on it, as well as adding other bits of flair….and I’m Still. Working. On. It.

…because I’m a lazy procrastinator.
