The loose theme of our wedding is “handmade with love,” and while I’m trying not to drive myself batty making everything myself, there are certain elements that have been, since the beginning, very important to me to be customized. The dress for example. In case you need a reminder, I bought a cheap white cotton dress on ebay and have been embroidering the story of Butch and I on it, as well as adding other bits of flair….and I’m Still. Working. On. It.
…because I’m a lazy procrastinator.
I really don’t know why this particular element is taking me so long. Actually, I do know – because I kept stopping to shop for houses, and then decorate chosen house, then to browse online for wedding ideas, then work on other parts of the wedding that are nowhere near as important, then work on craft projects that are completely unrelated, or even to just lie around in bed. All perfectly good excuses, except, when it boils down to it, if I spent just a few nights in a row watching movies and embroidering my dress, I could be done with it by now!
So to try to motivate myself back into the crafty saddle, I found a few handmade dresses on Offbeat Bride:
Jazmin’s muy caliente wedding dress
Chrissy Wai-Ching’s Puerto Rico Wedding
So it can be done, and it can look wonderful. Now I’m just hoping that the final product will affect me as magically as it did this one creative dress-makin’ lady, Veronica, over at Ruffled:
Even though it was an emotional, overwhelming, terrifying ordeal, it was also super fun at the same time. Sort of like the entire wedding planning process, right? I really don’t think I can describe how it felt the day I finished it. I put the dress and little matching bolero on the dress form, backed away a little and just stared at it, completely awestruck. So many ruffles. And all of a sudden the dress has gone from a source of stress and insecurity to something I deeply cherish and want to share with our future family. It’s my very own precious wedding dress, and I made it.
Well…a girl can dream, right?
I went back and looked at your original post about embroidering your story. I’d love to see some in-progress photos! It’s going to be amazing, definitely making your wedding your own!
I second the commenter above – I’d love to see some more pictures of your embroidery 🙂
